(AI) systems have revolutionized various fields and industries, bringing about tremendous advancements in automation, decision-making, and problem-solving. However, as AI becomes increasingly sophisticated, questions regarding the criminal responsibility of AI systems have emerged. Importance: Understanding the criminal responsibility of AI systems is crucial as these technologies become more prevalent in society. AI systems are designed to make decisions and take actions autonomously, which raises concerns about who should be held accountable if these systems are involved in criminal activities. Problems Assigning criminal responsibility to AI systems poses several problems. Firstly, AI systems are created by humans, and therefore, the question arises as to whether the responsibility should lie with the AI itself or the individuals involved in its creation. Secondly, existing legal systems may not be well-equipped to handle AI-related crimes, leading to potential gaps in accountability. Plan of Research: The researcher will divide the research into two sections. The first section will discuss the nature of artificial intelligence, its characteristics, and its relationship to crime. In the second section, the problem of criminal responsibility for artificial intelligence and proposed solutions will be addressed. The researcher will rely on the descriptive method to explain the research topic, taking into account the existing framework of traditional criminal liability. The analytical method will also be employed to analyze the research problem and the proposed solutions, culminating in an attempt to establish a suitable solution to the research problem. Then produce a number of results and recommendations. |
